We went offroading the other day and a buddy of mine (who always takes things way to fast) decided to follow me across a small pond... I have about 5" of lift and the water was just at the bottom of my doors, so I crawled my way slowly threw it.... his truck is a stock nissan pathfinder... needless to say he floored it to try and make it threw... had a 12 foot wave come over the hood and sucked gallons of water into the intake... his momentum got him almost onto land but the truck stopped just short...
he tries turning the key... but just gets a clunk... we pull it up onto land and pull the plugs and turn it over.. it shoots water out of the cylinders, while making some awful noises...
as of now it still turns over sometimes but will get stuck and jam up... then we will have to rock the truck and it will turn over again..
when the truck injested the water it was floored and propobly revving at over 5000 RPM.. my guess is that it bent a conecting rod or valve or all of the above instantly..
The big question is.. is it worth towing it home to take a look at (It is still at the entrance to the trail system) or should we just pull off anything that is good and tow it straight to the scrap yard? is there any chance that this motor survived? the truck is scrap if it doesnt run.... but he did put a $200 alternator in it the day before..lol..
Any knowledge of this would be great... has this happened to anyone else before?
This truck spent the winter (4 months) stuck in a frozen mud hole in Nova Scotia... some people never learn
