205/75/15 or 215/75/15?

The Walmart catalog says that my 88 Astro Van uses 205 75 15. I found a set of 215 75 15's for less money. Any reason I can't go to 215 and what will be the effect of having the slightly wider tire? Will there be any noticeable difference? Thanks

Use these two sites...

http://www.rimsntires.com/specs.jsp
http://www.rimsntires.com/tireplussizin ... iameter=15

Enter your current/OEM tire size, Then enter other sizes.

Play around with it. But, Beware of adding addition weight through a heavier/bigger Tire/Wheel Combo.

I've gone as big as 235 without any problems.

Hey Smiles

What was the weight difference, and the Mpg hit on running a bigger tire?

Thanks, Jim

215/75/15 was also a stock size for these vans.

I have also used 225/75R15 and 235/70R15 with stock wheels and suspension.

Oops. I meant to say 215 75R 15. I think that is what I am going to go with. Thanks for the rimsntire site and feedback. It never occurred to me that there was a significant weight difference for such a small increase in size.

FYI,

Here is one example of what mucking about with the OEM Specs can do:

Hope it helps, Jim

Just got the 215/75r/15 and a front end alignment and the car rides most excellent. Walmart charged $60.00 per tire. I got lifetime balance, $7.50. Total was $308.00 which I thought was excellent for 4 Goodyear tires. I apparently had 215/70r/15's before the change and I feel like I am riding a little higher now. Now on to project no. 2, shock absorbers. Thanks again for the advice.

What is the measured height of your tires?

I don't have any info on weight difference or MPG. I put the tires on a van that I bought for resale.

Looks like 27 1/8". I realize I am riding higher because I finally have the correct air pressure in the tires.
