Quick work trip today...some scenery shots

Post by loopie »

Only about 1hr 20min south of here on the Coquihalla hwy...major elevation changes...beautiful scenery. I love this drive, which I get to make 6-8x a yr.
Leave Kamloops at 1133ft, crest at 4738ft, down to Merritt at 1950ft, up to the Coq summit at 4068ft and drop down to Hope 138ft...turn around and go back. Sure works out the ear drums...it's ginda harsh if you're plugged up!!! :yellin:

A nice pull out that actually has a nice soft sandy beach just down the bank...

Nice Pix Loops!!
Brings back fond childhood memories.
I grew up in Merritt. Every year there would be a community 'trek' through the Coquihalla pass to Hope.
It was little more than a dirt trail along an abandoned rail-line at that time.
Anyways the annual trek was to raise money and awareness in order to get the highway built. It worked.
Yes, Its beautiful country in there, I miss it a lot. I especially liked the turquoise colored pond beside the road at one spot on the coq.

oh yeah...SO MANY spots to explore along this hwy.

I hear there's a small-tire worthy trail from the bottom(south) up to the summit that can take 2nights/3days at a casual pace....that'd be a cool trip :partyman:

There's an excellent 4x4 trail that takes you from Cathedral Park, up onto Placer Mtn, down the other side and drops you close to Manning Park. It's a fun road to take with some challenging spots, and fantastic views. From the summit you can see into the U.S. Unfortunately, I never got the photos back from my ex-gf.

When I was in my late 20's I bought a CJ7 and some camping gear and took 2 weeks off and went camping all over the place around Merritt, Kamloops Okanagan, Similkimeen etc. Wow! That was the best holiday ever!
If your heading to Merritt on Hwy5 turn off at Portia exit before the snowshed and take the back road around the toll-booths.
Theres some old tunnels you get to go thru too.
