Quick Question
I am hoping to take a look at a 96 tomorrow. The lady thinks the injectors are shot and it needs u-joints. What is the likely hood of the injectors being shot? Or is this the intake gasket problem. Also does an Astro have u-joints or CVs?
Re: Quick Question
I don't know about the injectors but yes the drive shaft tongue rear has u joints. I would assume the front has u joints as well from the transfer case tongue front diff.

Re: Quick Question
The injectors could easily be bad if they are original. This injection system is prone to leaks when it gets old. If you are lucky, it might just be a stuck poppet and some strong injector cleaner might take care of it. With the anti-freeze GM used, you could also have intake mainifold gasket problems.
The rear driveshaft hast two u-joints as a typical driveshaft. The front driveshaft on an AWD uses at least a CV joint on one end. (It's been so long since I looked, I don't recall the exact layout.) The front axle shafts use CV joints.
None of these problems are deal breakers if the price is right and you don't mind fixing/or having fixed.

Re: Quick Question
sometimes the owner says that xxxx is wrong, but in reality, its something completely different.
I bought an AWD 95 that had a "blown head gasket"
I started it up and asked how she knew it was that and she said that the cab would get full of steam.
Paid 390 bux, changed the heater core and drove thousands and thousands of kilometers.
How did you make out on this deal?

Re: Quick Question
I have only talked on the phone. There was someone coming to look at it last night. Wants $750. Exterior looks nice although I hate the color. Nice thing is it is local. I can do all the work myself. I would have someone more knowledgeable look at the injectors. Of all the old vehicles I have had going back to the late 80s, I have only had one leaky injector. No bad ones. Thanks for all your input. U-joints are so much cheaper than cv joints.
