cutting out wipers and driving lights

Post by photo_van »

Driving in the rain the other day, the wipers stalled a couple of times mid swipe. Last night upon start, the driving lights flashed a couple of times which was doubly odd because I'm pretty sure the parking brake was set (driving lights only come on when brake is off on the '98).

In any case, there seems to be an intermittent electrical issue that I would like to figure out before it decides to become less intermittent some night in the rain.

Any ideas?

Thank you

I have read about breaks in the circuit board traces for the wipers. Some guys have opened up the wiper motor and where able to fix them.

There was a recall on this issue many moons ago. My van wasn't covered by the recall when mine crapped out. I took a soldering iron to the main connections on the circuit board and just heated and resoldered them. Easy fix.

Granted, you may have another issue since you have driving light issues too.

Wouldn't hurt to check your grounds and clean them. The PO of my 94 ran a ground from the wiper motor screw cover and I clean it off from time to time.

I second the ground check it can be real P.I.T.A. and hard to find

Have a look at this link for the solder joints that need to be redone on your circuit board. viewtopic.php?f=10&t=3202

Just thought I'd follow up.

Ended up being two different issues. But it got me to clean a lot of grounds!

Man, what a cheesy switch at the parking brake (p.o.s. chevy) (term of endearment!) Sprayed contact cleaner on that, seemed to fix it.

Noticed that along with intermittent wipers being TOO intermittent, that the washer wasn't working either. Sprayed contact cleaner down the turn signal/wiper control arm as well as the switch in the column (somewhat blindly).

Everything seems to be working ok now.

Thanks again all.
