SBC is only 150lbs more than stock. The build for this is for torque which is in the upper 400's/lower 500lbs which you need to move a 4,000 lb van.We are planing for a custom build Ford 9" rear end that will have a 3.70ish rear end gear ratio.

Gary,,just catching up here bud. Where are you on this build now ?

Here's a little place down in Kingsport, Tn. you might like to look over. Bought alot of my stuff here in the past. Check out the HEI's they have a SBC. Also read info on their bearings.

http://skipwhiteperformance.com/

Here's the HEI I got from Skip. You wouldn't believe the quality this thing and also billet.

Larry I am using Kings "H" bearings which is what the Howards crank calls for.

The dizzy is going to be for a EFI system which I haven't nailed down which EFI system I am going to use.So the HEI I wouldn't be able to use.

What kind of HEI is it? Does it have mech/vacuum advance? If so, you can just lock out the mechanical by welding em or making a lock out plate, then not use the canister. After that you'd want a CC 4 pin module, but you should be able to run it that way. Either that or any of the Computer controlled carb or EFI 305s, 350s and I believe even big blocks should work fine for you. Depending on the RPM you want to turn they make an adapter for the large cap HEIs to use an external coil as well. The small cap is supposedly a better unit stock for stock.

Should work fine for most modern efi systems. It is already locked and the small cap. Rpm wise it is supposedly good for 6k plus stock. If it is mechanically sound clean it up stick a pickup in it and use it.

Ed: this is assuming you are doing batch otherwise you need a dual sync dist or a crank trigger.

I think I am all good there. This engine isn't going to see much of 6,000 RPM.The donor came with a MSD Blaster coil too.

Material wise I am the balance and King bearings away from a short block. Then on our race engines to blueprint the bottom end our average's is around 120hrs to completion for blueprinting. With this I expect to spend 60 to 70hrs which is every bore, rings to each bearing.I said I am a huge RHS fan.But in this application I will use Iron Eagles that out of the box are 72cc chambers cut down to 67CC for the correct SCR and some pocket porting. The intake runners are 180CC's and are on purpose on the small side to compound the nature of the 383 stroker for a increase of a torque curve at a low RPM.The computer sym said it should be in the neighborhood of 590's at 3,000 to 3,500 rpm.I think you do for a street vehicle that is 4,000 lbs as much low end torque as you can muster up to get it moving. With Edelbrock's EFI's being on the market as long as it has, they are showing up used as some decent pricing and that is the direction I am hoping to find a deal for.BTW-fyi,the 3500 series isn't supported by Edelbrock any longer. So to buy one of them for programing has the potential of a real problem. One of the features I like about Edelbrock EFI's is they are SFI style. Cam wise I am going to use a Elgin roller with comp cams spiders.I an going to use the cast iron header extruded ported which solves all the issues that come with tube headers. The cast iron headers are more durable and I have never been a big supporter of exhaust systems on street vehicles because they really don't come into play in normally driven rpm ranges.

When I lost the 94 LT,it sidelined this build temporary while I go threw the mechanics of Rufus. We gain (I hope) some major advances with Rufus today and I hope to have that wrapped up in the next two wks for I can get back to the Ole Yellar build.

I know what you mean times are hard right now. money is tight all over. have you looked at the Holley commander 950 system? I put that system on my room mates bronco its a 4 barrel tbi system that is very user friendly makes alot of power as well. easy to upgrade for more power down the road. the one we used was the 700 cfm but theres also a 1000 cfm if needed. we got that one off Ebay for like 600 the guy had bought the 1000 cfm kit and just used the tbi part and put the 700 cfm tbi in with all the new kit and sent it to me. i like it alot even with the 10.5 comp and big lumpy cam it works great.

Yeah-I gota call on Monday to get a status on the balance.Mean while I'm doing the floor board on the driver side and swapping in a tilt steering column with cruise and delay wipers.I want to weld on the firewall 1/4 20's to replace the dumb bass self tapper's on the base of the column.
