I am having a bit of trouble replacing the front rotors.
1997 Safari
I have the rotors off, and new ones in hand, but I am struggling to figure out how to get the gear/bearings out of the old and into the new.
The bearings came out of the rotor fine, but there seem to be other parts in there, and a gear looking thing on the inside of the rotor.
I am not sure at all how to get this all apart, and I dont wanna go prying and hitting without SOME guidance.
I have a bad pulsation so I just decided to replace them. I thought it would be an easy on/off like most rotors..... NOT

Re: Front rotor replacement
I think the gear looking thing you are talking about is the reluctor for the ABS system. The new rotors should have them. You may have gotten the wrong rotors. Give the parts guy a call and ask.

Re: Front rotor replacement
I already double checked that, they are the right ones, but no gear "thingy" on the inside.

Re: Front rotor replacement
Not sure about your '97, but the abs equipment on my '00 is part of the hub, not rotor. Possibly the previous owner put on the wrong rotor, and the reluctor ring isn't serving a purpose.

Re: Front rotor replacement
Actually, the part numbers line up, but they do not look right, I am gonna go to parts place tomorrow.

Re: Front rotor replacement
I may be wrong, but I think the ABS trigger is part of the hub on the AWD vans and part of the rotor of the 2WD vans. I don't think the trigger wheel can be removed from the rotor. I'd take one of your old rotors with you to the parts store for comparison.

Re: Front rotor replacement
OK, I musta been sleeping when I ordered them.
The rotors I had were for an AWD model, and I have RWD.
Took them back to advanced and swapped them for correct ones, popped right on.
AWD has no gear and no lug bolts etc. RWD rotors have all that
