97 AWD complete drivetrain fluid change

Post by crash »

going to drain and fill the front diff, transfer case, trans and rear diff.

what do I need to know?

after some reading here's what i've come up with so far of what I'll need

75w90 for the diffs, atf III or IV for the transfer case and trans a trans filter kit and some gasket maker

do i need any gaskets for the transfer case or diffs or is gasket maker sufficient?

also, can anyone provide the torque specs on each part mentioned.

thanks for the input

lol sorry i did look at this when you first posted it and completely forgot about it

no shelf life to worry about as far as i know i used a felpro gasket on my rear diff no leaks yet. your not going to take apart the front diff or transfer case so you don't need any sealers they both have drain plugs with the nylon(?) washer. Torque specs i can get tonight when i get home, don't keep the service manual in the truck anymore lol

I knew it ...

thanks for all the info guys.

going to change them all and keep the awd through the winter, see how fun it is. hate to say it but I may end up in the market for something new (used) come spring.

there's a terrible annoying droning that comes and goes when doing above 100km/hr (~60mph) on the highway. I'm assuming it's the transfer case or the front drive shaft or front axles. whatever it is.. it concerns me. not looking at putting any money into this van other than maintenance.

also got a whiff of coolant and slight fogging of the wind shield the other night when it was cold and raining out. we all know what that means.... something that is a lot of work from what i've read and something i don't want to get into. it's the one and only time it's happened over the last few months i've owned this 97 while running the heater
