Good price or not???

a 1995 or 96 Astro AWD, 166,000 miles, ladder rack, and a shelve, basically a regular Astro semi converted to a cargo. For $2200 OBO. With the way my cargo is acting for work and all of that non-sense, I was thinking of getting this as a spare until I get the other one up and going.

Mostly looking for thoughts on what everyone else has seen as price points, as KBB.COM can only tel so much

If you're willing to part with $2200 for a 16 year old van, be my guest. I wouldn't go much beyond $1200.

I would say if it is in great condition body wise, and runs great, $1500 max.

so if I understand correctly, its a passenger van that was converted to a pseudo work van?
If that is the case, I'd probably do $1600 or so if it checks out body wise and mechanically

I've been tempted and watching one around here.
Its a 93 AWD shortie that runs fine with a small amount of rust.
I saw it at 650, drop to 6, then 550 and there it is.
I might go look at it this weekend.
Over 2 grand is a lot for something as old as these.
You just know you will have to do things to it.
So it better be in supremely nice shape to warrant that price in my hood.

Why waste your money?

Junk yers, and use the cash for a Nissan NV2500.

Why people continue to think these things are worthy of todays business requirements is beyond me.

Nice toys they be... But, they are a dying breed.

Edit...spelin

Dying breeds of whatever are many. Some vehicles deserve the passage into oblivion and others do not. That does not entirely diminish their value to nothing if there was something special about them to preserve. There is a long list of classic vehicles that don't have today's bells and whistles. You all can list a few I am sure.

Is a 1957 Chevy better than a 2012 ? Maybe not, but there will never be another one like it.

Have there been improvements over time ? My answer is Yes.

Have all improvements been good ? My answer is No.

I believe that the Astro / Safari Vans ARE classics in their own right. I am a supporter of USA :usa: products even if the foreign ones appear better. These vans were special for many reasons.

The value, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder.

Who squeezed yer head?

We are, or I thought we were talking about a good business decision.

It helps to read the threads.

Reading again, I believe we are talking about "Good price or not???" for a van. I happen to disagree with you that they have NO value. I am more in line with the other posters who have stated what they believe they may be worth.

Many companies find the Astro a perfect fit for their needs and wish to continue using them because there are no other choices in this class.

To me, a GOOD business decision would be to NOT buy ANY foreign Vehicles, and DO buy Domestic Autos, built and sold by North American Companies, employing North American folks, and keeping the company's money in North American Banks.
Buying a new Nissan exports jobs and money to Japan.

Lots of businesses still use Astro's, and many small businesses cant afford a NEW truck, not even a POS Nissan.

Saying these Vans are worthless is offensive, and that sort of talk is better left on Nissan Van Forums.

Who said they were worthless?

Show me something in an Astro's size range that is made in North America, and I'll buy it.

Purchasing any older vehicle that is out of production for a busy and reliant on the van type vehicle is foolish. Hell, They won't even repair them after a wreck nowadays.

I stand behind what I said, and will say it again.

A 1500 dollar van is not a good long-term business investment.

Who said they were worthless? From SNL's Dana Carvey's Church Lady "could it be the.....AstroTurf ?" My dear sir that is what you wrote. Buy Japan instead was your additional advice to replace the "junk".

The point is that there is "nothing" USA made in the Astro's class anymore. That is why they have value to those that need or love them. A Cost Benefit analysis will prove this out especially when there is existing equipment tailored for the vans that fit that business.

Insurance companies suck. Many classic cars won't be repaired after a wreak. Does that make them less valuable ?

Our vans have a lot of life in them. Why not get every drop out of them ? $1,500.00, as you now profess you said, is not even a down payment for something else.

So say it again that we all believe in worthless junk and are foolish in keeping them going.

I am also offended by your statements.

Wow this has veered off topic...

A 16 year old van for a business does not a good investment make (period).

As for me and mine, when it breaks and causes a loss in business revenue, then it will be retired to my pile of toys. AND... Replaced with a newer piece of junk.

Can you here me now?

Again, the Church Lady says "could the veer be continuing from the...........AstroTurf ?' Take your own advice and read the topic as to it being about the value of something. Not about Japan cars or business choices but of the value of an object. There are many products older that 16 years that are worth fixing.

Any product with a remaining useful life is worth an investment to keep it going. Why replace a $800 appliance because it needs a $25 part ?

We hear you but you don't hear what you have said here. It could be time to stop defending the indefensible. You said it is junk so let it go as you seem to be rich and wise in the business world choices. Your opinion of $0 has been noted.

Carry on. Nothing more from me to add here.
