OBD1 tuning?

Post by JTalley »

I've been looking for good programs to do tuning and code reading for OBD1. I've downloaded TunerPro and WinALDL, but as of yet I don't have the cable. I usually pull my codes with a paperclip in the ALDL, but I sometimes get a CEL and no code. I was thinking I could get that code using the software, and maybe do some performance tweaking.

Does anyone have any advice? :-k

They even have instructions for building a cable. Other than that, eBay.

I found that with the cable, i could only log data.
I was not able to change anything, or tune anything.
I was told that much more expensive equipment is required to do any tune to OBD1.
OBDII on the other hand, I think can be flashed (re-written) from your laptop with a cable.

I could be wrong, if so please educate me, because the reason I bought a cable was, I was hoping to "Tune" my OBDI chip, but could not.
Now I view the money spent as a big waste, cuz I Never used the cable again.

Instead, I ended buying a performance chip from tbichips.com.

You need to research EEPROM's. This will give you an idea on how to program the "chip". Definitely need some specialized equipment. Getting the ALDL cable and software for the laptop will give you lots of info to look at and study though.
