front suspension question

Post by oldsmoker »

I have the Moog CC640 springs with monroe sensatrac shocks, I keep getting the feeling that it could ride better?

Anyone else running this combo?....those also running CC640s, what shocks are you running or have tried?

I feel like i need to read up on the roles of the springs and shocks within this susp system set-up to see where I need to go, changing the springs is not an option, any help would be appreciated!

What are you expecting from a top heavy 4000 lb brick?

I wonder if it would handle bumps a little better with different shocks, i have seen some people not like the monroe shocks, what have you had good success using, is what im asking

I dont expect it to ride like a limo but with new bushes, new springs & shocks, its not quite what i thought it might be?

I am not seeing that spring spec'd by Moog for your van.

What lead you to buy them?

http://www.racepages.com/products/?N=42 ... il+Springs

what originally lead me to them was an approved Moog retailer website, that particular site no longer lists any springs for these vans on a 1989??

Thanks for the quick reply...

I also found them listed on Rock Auto.

Do they feel softer than the old ones you replaced?

Thanks, Jim

the old front susp was SHOT!

now, the front end is much much stiffer, it corners great but is a tad hard and doesnt respond to bumps as "intelligently" as i thought it might, i wondered if it was due to a bad combo.

I think the springs that came out were prob the orig ones, front end was sagging and it would DIVE under breaking. I have to say, im very intrigued to try a rear anti-sway bar, i hear they change EVERYTHING!

thanks for your input!

My two cents

After having replaced my shocks with a cheap Napa product, I have a very mushy situ as well.

My next set of shocks will be bilstein.

I have been driving on the original shocks for the last 10 years, so when I got sensa tracks installed I thought they were the greatest. Six months later, I too, feel like they could be a little better, but overall I'm satisfied. I still have to dodge potholes.

So it sounds like the ride is too harsh. I doubt that the Monroe's are too stiff. However, I think that new springs are like new shoes, and need to be broken in. What kind of tires and air pressure do you have? How loaded down is your van? The anti-swaybar may just end up transferring vibration to the other side of the vehicle.
