I have been away from this site for a long time but astro vans still run through my blood . I have found a 89 or 90 GMC Safari Gt with a busted timing chain . Are these models still popular?

Welcome back. The GT's are still popular and are getting harder to find.

Home sweet home? Welcome back !
GTs are awesome! and can be hard to find.
How Much? Grab it if it isnt really rusty.
Timing chain is an easy fix if it doesnt get any deeper than that.

OK, I confess, I don't know what a Safari GT is. What is a Safari GT, and how does it compare to just a regular Safari shorty?

the most obvious one are the finished interior with all the best options, no back side glass, just fake louvers, a lower front airdam with fog lights, and a factory rear sway bar.
Brand new they had better shocks than the rest, and I heard they have a high rate steering box, but I dont notice.
I love the paint scheme on them, but mine was faded and peeling, now its all black.

I swear they had like a whopping 10 more horsies also, like an even 200 instead of the usual 190, and strictly had the 3:73 posi (gt4/g80) rears.
