Re: For All Members in the Storm's path
I spent an hour last night listening to the weather yelpers telling me I was in the boresight of a long track storm coming out of Alabama. They were working their new doppler radar for all it was worth, and taking feeds off the NWS dual pole that scans for debris in the air - more yelping about since debris in the air, tornado was on the ground. My little suburb town (Johns Creek) was scheduled for an 8:36 hit. Tornado sirens wailing, wife gathering the house beasts and DUCKing. I stood outside and smoked a cigarette and watched and listened.
Anticlimax. We got abut 30sec of hard, very large raindrops, the wind shear passed by with velocities of about 20mph, abrupt change of direction. The hook echo went right over us. I think we may have a few leaves and pine needles down...
I've seen 5 in my lifetime so far (I've always lived in "Bama's tornado alley), the first standing with my grandfather at age 4 in the door of the storm shelter and watching one rip up a barn and houses and cotton field across the creek bottom. I dodged one at over 100mph (me in the SS chevy2, not the storm) in North Alabama. I rode a bad one out in 74 in Jasper AL that ate the top off the courthouse and blew my other grandfather's former house (sold 2wks before) three blocks away.
Nyah, nyah, missed me again....

Aren't you worried that some day a storm will level your house and possible injure or kill you or someone close to you? Does home insurance cover that sort of thing?
Re: For All Members in the Storm's path
In Oklahoma, every spring it is a way of life, been here 50+ years & have seen many tornadoes big and small, but luckily never any damage to our property. The ones at night are the worst when you can't see them, fortunately our weather services are excellent & we always have ample warning to take shelter. Most all insurance companies here cover tornado damage, couldn't risk being without it.
