Well, it seems the van gods are mad at me again.....
the part in the picture above is the pulley that is attached to the alternator bracket. the bearing seized and sheared itself off of the bracket...and that means get another alternator bracket.
call the dealership, $110 and in stock. Go pick it up. Stop by the parts store and pick up a new starter for the same van (old one has been having issues) go back home.
start tearing into the engine cavity, take out the air box, and the hose behind it, take the top fan shroud out. and I actually managed to get the alternator bracket loose without much problem (thanks Air ratchet!)
Dad shows up to help.
Get the bracket out and pull the alternator off of it (notice its missing one support bolt in the back of the alt, and actually find one in my parts bin that fits, how lucky is that?) put the alt in the new bracket and reinstall it in the van. get the fan belt put back on, put the fan shroud back in, put the airbox in. start the van, everything looks good.
Notice that the drivers side door handle is breaking, it works but will need to be repaced soon. None of the parts houses have it in stock will have to be ordered.
Jack up the van to get at the starter, drop the old starter, move the heat shield to the new starter and reinstall starter. Test, ahhh..much better than before. While under the van we notice some serious damage to one of the rear tires, wearing badly and showing cord on the inside.
Leave the house and go to Manny Jack and Moes, purchase two new tires and since the van was due for an oil change, have that done as well.
Leave MJMs to take dad back to his house. When we get to the house we hear a dinging sound coming from inder the hood, sounded like a couple of pipes hitting each other. We check and see that the fan shroud has shifted and the fan is hitting it, when we puch the shroud to the side hte sound stops.
Readjust fan shroud and the dinging noise is gone. we're satisfied with the outcome of a days work and then we hear...the engine knocking, a deep internal knock, the knock of doom, the sound of a knocking rod...
The van is staying the weekend at dads and he is going to take it to his mech monday for a better diagnosis.
This really sucks after putting $400 into the van to have this happen. Especially when cash is short.
I guess if the engine is going, i'm not going to have to worry about that door handle...
