99 Safari won't start

Post by oldewrench »

The engine turns over, fires initially then dies. You can hear the engine fire once then dead. No repairs or anything changed lately. It started yesterday but not today. Any ideas guys. It has new dist cap plugs wires coil this year.
Thanks

Fuel pump. Get ahold of a fuel pressure tester and see what you have. It needs to be around 50 psi or greater to run. The Schrader valve is located on the fuel lines under the doghouse.

Thanks for the fuel pump suggestion. Since I have to work on the van in the driveway and it's pouring rain 24/7 hear in Oregon I had the safari towed to get it fixed. Mechanic said he got a " security sensor failure code" . It started on the third try, fuel pressure is above 50 and has started every time since. He said come get it, he doesn't want to change the security sensor if it doesn't bring up the code every time. Suggestions?
Thanks

No idea what the security sensor is. Hopefully it won't leave you stranded a ways from home. If it does fail to start again, pound on the bottom of the gas tank to see if the pump will cycle on. If that works, replace the pump.
