S-10 spring install question..overload leaf or no?

Post by Red sled »

I just received my new S-10 springs and have a question on leaving the overload leaf on or not.
Will it fit in the original spring bucket and do I need it ??

It looks like some guys have the overload leaf and some do not. Pros or Cons ??

Bolts are ordered and pucks will be picked up this weekend. Just trying to figure out some of the questions before I get into lift.

Me, I would just put them in and find out how it sits and rides. Then decide. Do you know the spring rate on them?
All the springs listed for astro that I came across mentioned how many leaves plus the overload. They all had the +1.
Yours looks like a 3+1 pack. They should fit the clamps fine. Dont forget too that the springs will settle as time goes by.
How much free arc is showing in that pic? If its over 7 you'll probly get at least 4 inches out of it.
They look alot like mine when they were new! Nice. I'm jelly.

Thanks for the reply. It just seemed like there was some discussion about the thickness of the springs with the overload leaf. Perhaps it was for the fibreglass spring replacement...

A quick measurement - from a straight edge c/c through the bolt holes to the centre of the spring is 7 3/4"

I don't know the spring rate. I just took the advice of Marktainium from his post about the home brew kit. A little faith and a couple hundred bucks and I hope it works as well as I imagine.

:guitar: It will. No worries.
The spring rate will just determine how hard it bucks!
7.75 C-C should be the same as mine when i put them in.
For arc, I had about 7.5 from the table to the first contact with leaf.
Not sure how much offroad you plan on bit I really like the old Shorties because of the long rear end bumper contact in ditches.

The shorty's look awesome either lifted or lowered. I am looking for more room inside for travel/sleeping, so the longer van is the best for me.

The web site for SD Truck springs says the spring capacity is 1350 lbs and the arch is 7 1/2". There was a heavy duty spring available that was 1750 lbs capacity.

The same web site says a replacement for the stock van has a capacity for 1410 lbs and a spring arch of 3 1/8".

I guess I'll soon find out how it handles with the new suspension.
