check engine light on

hello, my 1999 astro sufferd some moderate power loss and felt like misfire while climbing a small hill at 70kms and check engine light came on right away. engine now runs fine but still got the check light. how do I get rid of the light. Oil and coolant all look ok and no white smoke from tail pipe. all seems ok. thanks Sandpiper

If everything is OK, it should go out by itself after a while. If not, there is a problem that needs to be fixed and the computer should be scanned.

It takes a scanner to turn off the light. Sounds like "random misfire". My Safari did this several times and for some unknown reason it fixed itself.

update on check engine light--- put in some fuel injector cleaner yesterday, drove8kms to work, pushed a little bit hard on the way home, stopped at store 1 km from home, on restart the light was off. Pushed a bit means up to 80 kms per hour for two kms. I think it gets too much driving at 30-50 kms ( carboning up) and misfired thanks from sandpiper

I had that problem a couple of days ago and it turned out to be the MAF Sensor. We're changing
both O2 Sensors too so I'm hoping to see some improvement in mpg.

Alot of the Auto parts chain stores will reset your CEL for free. I use my ultraguage to reset mine. Last time my check engine light came on it turned out to be a loose gas cap.

follow up--- misfire happened again, scan showed #4, new plugs and wire set did the trick. thanks guys.
