High idle fix

So the 05 developed a high idle on a trip last month. MIL illuminated, fault code p0507 idle air too high. After researching and setting a game plan I pulled the pass front seat and the dog house. Checked and cleaned the IAC. Replaced a broken vacuum line. Drove van after erasing fault code. No dice, it came back.

Started checking for more vacuum leaks--none to be found. Pulled the air filter housing and checked the throttle body. Yeah, kinda carboned up. Before pulling it to clean I checked the linkage/cables. Hmmm, the cruise control seems a little tight. Too much tension. I can actually push on the linkage and get the throttle to close a little. Pull the TB and see there's an adjustment for the cruise control motor cable. Lets try that. Cleaned up the TB while I was at it. What do you know idle is back down around 700. Test drive--NO FAULT CODES, NO MORE HIGH IDLE! Yippee!

Thanks for posting this I have never heard of the cruise control causing a high idle. I never would have looked at it thinking of its turned off it isn't a problem. Good piece of advice you never know when you might need it.

I was surprised as well. But no problems since. Suppose I should verify cruise is functioning correctly.
