Poor Gas Milage

Post by JoeSettimio »

I'm getting 15.5 mpg on my '03 AWD Astro. I was getting over 17 mpg. It got 130K miles and it starts and runs great. No noticeable exhaust smoke. Is there something that I should be looking at?

Where do you live Joe? Cold weather affects the mileage on FI vehicles more than with carbs because in theory FI is always the right mixture for the conditions and with carbs, they waste fuel all summer to be rich enough for winter. I check my mileage all winter as well but don't pay much attention to it as it's nothing like it would be in warmer weather.

I live in Sunny Charleston, SC. That wouldn't be the case here. Thanks

Starting simple...

Air filter, tire pressure, fuel filter

Thinking Deeper...

Vacuum tubes, distributor cap, rotor, plugs, wires

Do you have any codes? (check engine lit)

I used to live in Sangaree, right outside of Summerville for about four years. Lived in North Charleston for about four before that.

Where you at?

Another thing that always gets us up here in NY is the brakes dragging due to sand, salt and rust. You might have one rear one dragging slightly. It doesn't take much.
