Any idiot can replace front shocks, WHy can't i?

Post by Vanjoe »

Bent off top bolt, re=move thru bottom. Lignup new rubbers, crank down top nut until shaft turns, NOW WHAT? Jacked up side and got minimal access for two wrenches but it could take day doing it like this, WIsh I had felt line visegrips to grab shaft and crank down with socket o top.
Can someone help me out here? How should this be done, properly????? AN hour ago, I was to meet someone 90 miles away. Im late !!!! Lost time trying to find out if these new kyg shocks were correct. Have a 1/2 inch shaft and old shocked were 5/8 shaft

I assume you jacked up van and put on jack stands and removed wheels?
Get correct size wrench. Take your time.

Did you remove the splash shield? Should be easy to get to the shock through wheel well.

Yes, pulled my newly replaced shields off, jacked up, on stands, then jacked each side to gain access. PITA I'm thinking the cold has the rubbers too cold to moosh down . Top of shocks are below the opening in the frame , jacking didn't give a
enough room to get onto the shock nuts from the side. Never had so much trouble, but I never was one to spend for luxury items like shocks.... Its all done but, from feel, the rubbers are not as wide as the washers. Gonna try to crank em down some more today .
