1995 Safari is just scewing with me or may be haunted?

Post by cbutcher »

Dead 1995 bastard year Safari, no codes just will not start, almost, couple of hits and then dies.
Fuel Pressure Tests
Up to 62 fast down to nothing
vise Grip on return line, Up to 62 very slow bleed down to zero.
Power up to 62 slow bleed down released Grip and drops to zero.
New Pump AC Delco with little plastic hose clamps.
Up to 62 fast down to nothing
Pulled off the upper Intake manifold, small pools of oil/gas ?? in the low points and the right side was cleaner than
the left (from the rear).
Cycled the fuel pump about 25 times with no visible signs of leakage anywhere.
Up to 62 fast down to nothing.
Closed it back up.
Pulled the tank one more time
put Pressure gauge on tank outlet
Up to 62 fast down to nothing.
Pulled pump and went to get new pump (AC Delco).
ON a hunch replaced little plastic clamps with metal Screw Hose Clamps.
put Pressure gauge on tank outlet
Up to 90 slow down to 70 and stayed all morning.
Tank back in will not start.
Up to 62 Slow down to 45 holds, will not start, runs just a few seconds then dies, no throttle response at all.
there is a buzzing sound when it dies every few times.
I spilled some gas when re-fueling the tank, I have my BBQ lighter and am real tempted?????????????????
Can the fuel regulator be bad and not leak?
some where else to look?
any one want to buy a large door stop?
any help would be appreciated
thanks
Craig

First thing that comes to mind, did you change the filter? are the lines clear?
'93 Safari shorty, 350 swap
'05 Astro AWD, lifted, 6 liter, cammed, ported and programmed for fast.
'69 G10, straight 6, 3 onatree, jumped at me when I had a pocketful of cash looking for a spare astro. :)

yes the filter was changed with the fuel pump.
Lines clear, nothing came out when i ran some wire through them and then air.

Sprayed Starter Fluid and it ran for a short while.

Thinking right now that the Spider is clogged or not firing, or else the computer is shot.

So tomorrow will pull the upper manifold off and check each injector port to see if it fires, I might have a leaking
injector.

Check the 2 - ECM fuses. Check the wiring harness that crosses over the right side valve cover for burned through wires.

ECM fuses good, could find no burnt wires in the bundles over the valve covers.

With the top of the intake off,
When powered on one injector drips gas, another gets wet around the tip.
when I turned the engine over there was no spray coming from the injectors

So now I am planing on rigging test power to the Spider wires to see if the spider is bad or a wiring issue.
Thanks

Spider was bad, have installed new spider, and does not fire.
Rigged a 12 volt jumper to the two prongs and it fires then.

So I am going to look for a short or broken wire.
Wiring Diagram looks to be Hot from the ECM 1 Fuse and Trigger from the PCM.

Any way to check the PCM to see if it is working?

No scanner just jumping A to B and I get the Idiot 1-2 flashes all day.
This has the OBD 1.5 jack so non of my Readers fit.

Thanks
Craig

Not sure how to check the ECM other than pick one from a scrapper and try it.

Fixed At Last
The GM Factory manual has a good trouble shooting section, 12v to # 4 wire on Dist Ign Module fires injector, so PCM is good, DI Module needed replacing.

Runs better than ever.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions.
