New Snow Tires

Post by dobaroy »

On our 1999 Astro 2 wheel drive we have a set of summer tires 235/75 R15 on it and we have 2 new winter tires not on rims size 215/65 R 15. Would the 65s be too wide on the back? What do you all think?

The 215's are narrower than the the 235's by 20 mm so no, they won't be too wide. The 65 number is the sidewall height. They will be too short though as they are a little bit shorter than the stock size.

I had a set of snow tires from a previous vehicle that I ran on my '97 AWD, they were a bit narrower and shorter but were fine for winter use. As long as the load rating is suitable, you're not going to hurt anything except losing a bit of ground clearance.

Pretty sure that's what size mine were too, they were studded Nokia's off an old Audi and too good not to use on my '97 Safari awd.

I remember exacting revenge on cars all winter long by furiously launching away from lights as often as possible and just smoking everyone for cheap thrills. :D
