Re: 1992 G20 - frozen belt tensioner

Were you planning on replacing the belt anyway? Cut the belt, get a new tensioner. You're going to need a new tensioner anyway, maybe the few extra bucks for the belt will be worth not messing with getting it loose. As you've found out, there is precious little room in there to work.

Re: No crank

Wow you're welcome. I'm not always so helpful... It only took you hours and hours? I took me weeks. I'm glad it worked out for you. An awesome feeling when you fix the car yourself!

Re: No crank

Yes, typical General Motors side post battery. The battery cable itself has a big eyelet on the end of it, and the colored plastic cover goes over that and the bolt goes through the middle and screws into the battery. There is a wire coming off the main cable but that is attached to the cable, not t...

Re: No crank

This is what happened on my Silverado. And it's the only time I've ever seen this. Corrosion had hardened on the battery cables, both of them, and effectively cut off the connection between them and the battery. What I did, I took that center screw out of the cable, took off the colored plastic end,...

Rear Disc Brakes

Hi everyone. My van has never had terrific brakes, and I was thinking that maybe rear discs would help it out. It's a 90 G20. Did the later vans come with disc in back or did the Express/Savana have them? Would an E/S bolt right in or are the perches different? Has anyone ever put in rear discs and ...

Re: New-to-me '73 G-30 Chevy Van: Where do I start?

I'd get it running first and then make it safe to drive. Brakes, tires, etc. As for the interior, if it's in bad shape no need to keep it. Remember, rare does not always equal valuable. People with vintage Airstreams will completely gut the interior and build back custom. Do what's comfortable for y...

Phonetic alphabet. T ango U niform T-U. Tits Up. Finito. Done. The trans was not in a good way and then it blew a head gasket. Fixing those would have been more than the van was worth. In hindsight I should have just fixed it. But along came the 90 and that was that. I have taken a few things off th...

Re: Broken Hood Cable

Good morning everyone. Yes it's been awhile since I posed this question. Yesterday was the first chance I had to get back to it. I'm happy to report I successfully got the hood open. I took the doghouse off and could see the back of the latch. I reached forward with a long screwdriver and tripped th...

Re: Hello from rural Kentucky

Check LMC truck parts. They have a few parts for the G van.

Latest new guy

Hi everyone. Been a big fan of the G van for a long time. I worked at a Chevy place in the 80s and I drove many of them brand new. The owner's son owned an antique store and a G van was his delivery vehicle, and had a couple of them, and I helped him deliver furniture and whatnot. Years later a frie...

Re: Broken Hood Cable

Thanks Wood. I don't have access to the hinges with the hood closed, but your 3' long rod gives me an idea. Perhaps I can take the doghouses off and reach the latch from behind. I'll give it a look.

Re: Tank Drop

I just did this on my 90 Beauville. Be very, very careful of the wire that is soldered onto the sending unit, as it will break off easily and then your fuel gauge won't work. Wouldn't it be nice if there were an access panel right above the tank so you could disconnect the lines and turn the ring -b...

Broken Hood Cable

Hi everyone. New guy here, have a 90 G20 Beauville. The hood release cable has broken and I need to get under the hood. Doesn't seem like there is any access from the outside to coax it open. Also, I have an 84 parts van. Would the cable in it fit the 90? Are new cables available? Thanks everyone. M...
