Re: Astro 4.3 VinZ fuel cutout/stall problem
James, yep. You are definitely on my A-list for next time around (which I hope never comes)! How to understand this. The fuel pump is turned on by the ECM on initial 'key on' for fuel pump priming. Once the ECM recieves an ignition reference signal from the ignition module (cranking or running) it t...

Re: Astro 4.3 VinZ fuel cutout/stall problem
So it WAS a sparkage problem. Next time, give it a shot of starting fluid. If it starts, it's a fuel delivery problem. If it doesn't start, look at the electrics. Actually I did that and it fired - my understanding is - and someone who knows please correct me - that the signal that fires the inject...

Re: Astro 4.3 VinZ fuel cutout/stall problem
BTW,
I noticed after I drained my tank (disconnected line from fuel filter and let pump run it dry until pumping air) that my gauge still read 3/16ths of a tank.
Is there any easy way to calibrate this?
thx

Re: Astro 4.3 VinZ fuel cutout/stall problem
OK folks, We may have a resolution...sigh.... We took it in to shop today - wouldn't you know it, it ran fine the whole way. They had trouble getting it to act up enough to track it but ultimately the found they could get a fairly repeatable issue by letting it get warmed up and then shut it down, a...

Re: Astro 4.3 VinZ fuel cutout/stall problem
Another thing that I thought odd at the time. When I was jumping the pins on the connector for the oil-sensor switch, 2 things: First the pump came on right away (even with key off) and stayed on. Second, I used a jumper wire that was either 22ga or 20 ga and it was carrying enough current to make t...

Re: Astro 4.3 VinZ fuel cutout/stall problem
They're combined into a single unit with 3 pins - 1 for gauge, 2 for switch. but Bad news, Tried to start it Sunday, cranked until battery was dead. Put jumper pack on it and finally got it started - died twice in driveway. Started down road and it tried to die twice So I turned around and went back...

Re: Astro 4.3 VinZ fuel cutout/stall problem
We'll possible good news. I hate to risk posting before my chickens are hatched but there is a promising development. The justask guy had me jumper the switch pins on the oil pressure connector. It ran for a good 15 mins without dying so I hit the parts store just before they closed and got an oil s...

Re: Astro 4.3 VinZ fuel cutout/stall problem
OK here is the latest. I drained all of the gas - to the point the pump couldn't pump any more, poured about a gallon back in, drove it over to the gas station, and put 5 gals of premium in, and it died while setting at the stop light after leaving the gas station. Maybe I didn't go far enough to cl...

Re: Astro 4.3 VinZ fuel cutout/stall problem
Thanks for the input guys. I have pretty much (I think) narrowed it down to fuel problem by doing the following: wait until it is hard-starting, visully check there is no gas coming out of the injectors, spray carb cleaner int the throttle body and the engine fires: ergo spark but no fuel. I did a v...

Re: Astro 4.3 VinZ fuel cutout/stall problem
I took it out for a test drive because it seemed like it was running pretty well the last couple of days. I drove it for about 15 mins at speeds up to 57 (the fastest I could get the traffic to move) and every thing was running fine (although maybe a little warm). Then after a little in-town driving,...

Re: Astro 4.3 VinZ fuel cutout/stall problem
It'll defintely be hard to do the driving test - no shrader and no in-line adaptor for that vehicle. The pressure read right at 13psi - at least on my cheap gauge. I did install a new regulator diaphram kit, unless you mean the whole metering assembly. I don't believe this model has a pulsator - I c...

Re: Astro 4.3 VinZ fuel cutout/stall problem
Hi Smalley, Glad to be here. The justask guy is giving an answer that it sounds to him like the injectors are leaking fuel out of the line or the fuel pump is allowing fuel to flow back into the tank. This sounds improbable to me because if that were the case I would think it would be hard starting ...

Astro 4.3 VinZ fuel cutout/stall problem
Good morning all, I was working on a problem in another forum and Smalley recommended I come here. Here is the story: I hope you can help. #-o The vehicle is a 91 chevy astro 4.3L with 100k+ miles About 2 or 3 weeks ago, very occasionally at first, the engine would suddenly die. There was no warning...
