Re: I'm back, too.

Nah, just keepin' her running. I like the idea of the AstroSafari and I can't think of any other "car" I'd like to buy. Tis a shame they GM quit making that model. I may but a same-year rolling chassis as a "parts car", I do need to start thinking of an engine transplant (compres...

I'm back, too.

Member since '06, joined about the time that the Old AstroSafari forum was on the decline and this New AstroSafari.com was budding. Never really developed much of a a post count here. Developed a bad ticker, retired and went a couple of lean years adapting to "graduation from work". The As...

Re: Turn Signal Switch

I'll probably end up bitin' the biulet and replacing the switch instead of trying to repair it. The van in my current daily driver and I'm tryin to do it as easily/cheaply as possible...

Thanks,

Turn Signal Switch

The past couple of weeks when I activate or cancel the turn signal (right or left) the windshield wipers will wipe one sweep. This happens once every couple of days, not too frequently, but I figure that the wipers may end up dying in a heavy thunderstorm. I'm planning to tear into the turn/wiper/et...

Thanks, Mark. It doesn't look like this panel will be too mysterious to work with. As you say, I "can repair it rather easily, even if it is rather a tedious operation." I customized the interior of my GMC full-size cargo van in the 1980's-- I used masonite wall paneling with a white melam...

Working with a Custom Interior

I'm getting ready to replace the rear roller on my sliding door. The job looks routine, except my van has a custom interior and I'm worried about getting the wall covering put back right. I'm going to have to remove that covering enough to get my arm in to remove the bolts that fasten the outer door...

Fuel pump autopsy

Last week I did a pre-emptive replacement of the fuel pump on my '92, and being the inquisitive sort, I disassembled the old pump to see what was worn in it. This is a TBI "Z" engine with 215,000 miles on the clock. Interesting design of the brushes on the motor, and I'd say that the motor...

Holy pocketbook, $800-$1500 for a fuel pump replacement? The part cost is bad, but the labor is highway robbery. Unless there is more involved in the newer models, I can't see much more than a couple of hours of labor in dropping the tank and popping a fuel pump in. On the older TBI models, the fuel...

Whew. I got inactive on AS.com for the last year. I didn't have time or money to do much work on the van since I was working on graduating (from work, that is; some call it re-tirement). When I got back on, things seemed 'different", but AS.com seems to be back to "normal" now. But it...

Hi, all. Deja VuVu.

I found a subtle pointer at "the other site" over to here, and here I be.
