Re: current scan tool suggetions for basic uses.
Ive used the Ultragage for about 8 years now, It was around $60 at the time, I havent had any problems with it, works good for checking/resetting codes, also has nice features on the diplay including a tach, just thought I would give feedback and mention it since you are looking at options.

I vote for the pattern you used on the drivers side.

Re: Guidance please! Burning oil.
If it is burning that much oil in that short of a distance, the tailpipe would be a quick easy check, look for black oily residue.

Re: 97 astro, noisy fuel pump...
When I bought my '99 Astro 4 1/2 years ago, I noticed the fuel pump made a loud buzzing noise, but it ran OK so I decided to just drive it, and see if it had issues other than the noise. The van still runs fine, the fuel pump is still noisy. Just thought I would mention it, apparently some noisy fue...

Re: It stopped running..
Sounds like your spark and fuel system are good, another possibility might be the ignition switch? I also had a similar problem caused by an aftermarket tach (the rev limiter would for some reason cut the spark after driving, causing the car to not start). Best of luck chasing down the gremlin.

Re: engine surging at first startup- 94 astro
I had another vehicle do that when a temp sensor went bad (bad connection). The engine would surge as the computer was hunting for the temp signal, and apparently the computer translated it as a cold motor and was also running in choke mode (running rich). Once the computer thought the engine was up...

Re: beeping when I turn.
My hazard switch recently broke, (it would not shut off), when trying to wiggle the button on the column to make them stop blinking the horn would occasionally honk. The harness on the multifunction lever on your column may have a short in it, there are alot of wires very close together, Im guessing...

Re: What did you do to/with your van today?
New Moog sway bar bushings installed today, they seem a lot more firm than stock, but not sure I feel any difference driving. Still trying to find mystery rattles in the front end.

Re: What did you do to/with your van today?
My hazard switch broke, of course GM designed things so the entire multi-function lever has to be replaced, Im a bit peeved because my original turn signal lever was working fine, the new one does not feel as nice as the original. They should have kept the old design where the hazard switch could be...

Re: Dual Battery Isolator Location
Maybe move the propane outside the vehicle, or under the van like Westfalia style campers. I had a propane valve go bad during filling on my Vanagon once, for safety reasons the attendant had to call the fire department, which closed off the area until the leak had stopped (the liquid propane expand...

Re: What did you do to/with your van today?
Did a semi- fluid flush on the power steering, sucked out old fluid with turkey baster, filled reservoir and drove around town, and then repeated. The weather is too nice to work on my van so I took a drive along the coast and thru the redwoods. I could probably back the van inside this tree if it w...

Very nice Riv, those are hard to find, its interesting that they do not share the body shell with any other GM cars.
