Re: Suggestions Needed For Towing Problem
Oh absolutely. We will be taking the trailer in to the RV shop this weekend to get the brakes inspected and bearings repacked. Getting it out of the driveway should show us what other adjustments are needed. Just reversing the hitch and ball may allow us to squeak by but you are correct in pointing ...

Re: Suggestions Needed For Towing Problem
Yes, definitely talking about flipping the trailer axle, not the van. I know a lot of trailer folks do this to give them more clearance but I don't think I'm ready to do something that drastic yet. I did talk with my hitch guy today and he said they can add the air bags. In the meantime, he flipped ...

Re: Suggestions Needed For Towing Problem
While the stabilizers on the front corners do catch most of the time, the receiver for the hitch drags every time. If my husband is backing slowly enough, I can usually get him stopped before he snags the trailer itself. We've tried filling the dip with boards, bricks and Lynx Levelers in various co...

Suggestions Needed For Towing Problem
We just purchased a new (to us) popup, a Coleman/Fleetwood 2003 Tacoma. We had hoped that, because it has a shorter box on it, that it might get us past a glitch we have with a bad angle going into and out of our driveway. The hitch receiver always drags and the front end of the trailer itself ( jus...

Re: Tire Rub with New Tires
I'll try marking the wheel well to try to spot the problem. I have a Dremel that I can use to remove the spot as long as I can find it. The guy at the tire shop hacked a piece off but it wasn't the right piece. I'm hoping to do a little better :-)

Tire Rub with New Tires
Put some new tires on my van but they do rub just a bit under certain circumstances. I put a set of BF Goodrich T/A 235/70 R15's on with some new wheels. The rubbing only happens on the front right but I can't figure out exactly where it is rubbing. My husband and I have both looked but since it onl...

Is there any way to repair them, and/or prevent them from getting worse?

The nice part about it is it is only engaged when the wt is on and you don't have to add air to it or adjust the amount of air.
I'll have to give these a look. Thanks!

Shocks, Air Bags, Anything Else?
We've had our van for several months now but only just got back from our first extended trip (2 weeks) using it to tow our trailer. The results were somewhat less than desirable. Our trailer is a '97 Starcraft Venture and weighs less than 1500 lbs when unloaded. We never experienced any trailer sway...

Re: New Member in DFW
Well we found a van that we could live with. We looked at quite a few that were really tired or looked as though they had been beaten with a hammer. We looked at three that claimed to have a "towing package" but turned out to have only an added hitch and none had the tow rating necessary f...

Thanks for the nice welcome, everyone, and thanks so much for the great tips. We go shopping tomorrow so we'll see what we can find.

Re: New Member in DFW
I will definitely agree that the Quest wasn't the ideal tow vehicle, but it did OK. It came with a tow package and did handle things pretty well on most of our shorter trips. It struggled on a trip out west, when we drove from Dallas to Yellowstone. It didn't care much for steep climbs. We probably ...

Re: New Member in DFW
the trailer tow pack came with a factory trans cooler and a 3:73 rear axle ratio. The RPO code for the axle is GT4 you also want to look and see if it has the code G80 that is for the posi traction rear axle. I couldn't find the code for the trailer tow pack itself I think there isn't one you just ...

Greetings, all! My name is Patti and my husband and I live in the Dallas area. We don't have an Astro/Safari yet but are currently in the market. We had been towing our popup with a Nissan Quest but when the timing belt broke, it left us without a tow vehicle. I've been reading about Astro/Safari va...
