Official goodbye
I havent been very active on the forum anyway, but I decided to give an official farewell since i sold my 97 astro. It served its purpose well and was for the most part fun while it lasted. The nail in the coffin for me was a busted front brake line during winter. Sold it for $1000 as it sat and hop...

Re: What s the easiest/simplest V* swap into a 98 AWD
The Ins Co. gave me $4k to replce the van, so I figured if I put that money back into the van I am not out anything . A crate 350 can be had for approx 2k ? For all the work you want to do to your 98, $4k won't cover it! You would definitely be much further ahead buying another 98 AWD that has a gr...

Re: idle rough

Yep stuck open EGR can cause all those symptoms. If its wide open it will sound like you have a crazy cam... lopey low idle a...

Re: major headache
It could maybe allow vacuum to the EGR valve keeping it open and allowing excessiev flow at idle.

Re: major headache
I think your van has a positive back pressure EGR valve and EGR Vacuum Solenoid. You might wanna check out the solenoid. Its what sends vacuum to the EGR valve.

Re: major headache
You wont see a problem if its an O2 sensor until its warm. It will use the base fuel table and should run fine although likely a little rich. I bet it turns out to be something that has everyone slapping their foreheads.

Re: anyone ever change from hydroboost to vacume assist?
if your gonna use a salvage yard vacuum unit... why not consider a salvage hydroboost system as well? Im sure one could be had pretty cheap. Definetly a step backwards to go vacuum anyway

Re: brake/steering hydrovac system-need help!
I dont think brakes should be to the floor. Sounds like you have air in the brake system. No brake assist gives a very hard pedal. Did you make sure the little valve in the power steering pump was clean and instaleld correctly... O-rings installed and intact?

Re: Brake Lines
Yeah i got the cheapo tool sold at autozone. I also had the crooked flare issue but found that eyeballing it all as straight as possible gave good results. I had a fitting leak and had to cut it off and make a new one while under the van. Sucks quite a bit, but i got soo good with the tool that it o...

Re: Brake Lines
Turns out Napa sells a products called Polyarmour. From what i read its double walled and can be hand bent. Price seems resonable too for a 25' roll. Anyone know what size fittings ill be needing or any other details? I plan to replace every hard line. I dont trust those rusty lines while towing my ...

Re: Brake Lines
Im probably gonna cut the lines to size and bring them to a shop to get the flares done. I can always look to rent the tool, but then ill have to put down a hefty deposit if its an expensive one. Im sure if you just come in with the lines most shops wont charge much to just throw some double flares ...

Re: Brake Lines
Im in the same boat. The rear line busted just behind the fuel tank in that typical area. Im extremely unfond of the idea of working on it laying on my back in the dirt trying to bend up the lines so i have been also looking for prebent. Ill go at it myself if need be, but really really dont want to...

Fuel lines
I recently found that some sort of rodent decided to gnaw at the flexable section of one of the fuel lines that pass over the transfer case on my 97 AWD astro. Has anyone eliminated the flexable sections and replaced with solid line without any issues? I can always cut the old flexable portion away ...
