Re: Can I run my '95 AWD without the front drive shaft?
test drive and all is good again. The biggest battle was freeing up all the crusty stuff, as usual. The Minnesota climate and salty roads are hard on these old beasts!

Re: Can I run my '95 AWD without the front drive shaft?
$53.00 for a rebuilt half shaft. I brought the old one with so I didn't have to pay the hundred dollar core fee per axle. They only had one in stock and the other will be in tomorrow in case I need both. Also throwing in some new break pads while I'm in there and dirty. Also stopped at the liquor st...

Re: Can I run my '95 AWD without the front drive shaft?
Thanks, that's kinda what I was figuring on. Located some half shafts at the local O'Reilly's and am pulling the right side out now.

Can I run my '95 AWD without the front drive shaft?
Hey Everyone, I am pretty sure I have a bad cv joint up front and am wondering if I can remove the front drive shaft and drive it that way for a while until I can properly diagnose and fix/ replace the half shafts. I have done a bunch of searching this forum and others but am still not sure how this...

Re: Swapping tranny tonight
Well doesn't that suck! At least you found the issue and know that your spare trans is ready to go. Or...you can learn to rebuild a 4L60E sometime right at home! :D yea... what you said! Just feeling super-glad that I didn't give the rebuild shop the go ahead to overhaul it at $2200.00... Now THAT ...

Re: Swapping tranny tonight
Yea, I did flush the cooler lines real well. Wanna hear the end of this story now??? Get ready to laugh and feel my pain. Got the new used tranny in in and filled up, took her for a test drive and it was shifting just the same as the old one which I suspected had a bad electrical problem of some sor...

Re: Swapping tranny tonight
For the torsion bar tool, use a large C clamp and remove the flat swivel end. I borrowed these pics from Lockdoc's photobucket album. He had posted them here before. http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g152/Astro-Safari/93AWD/summer06/AWDsummer0611.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g152/Astro-Saf...

Re: Swapping tranny tonight
The transfer case uses the same fluid as the tranny so you can put regular Dexron 3 or go synthetic if you have it. As long as you have it out, it's a good time to drain and refill it. I pulled the transfer case out last night and drained it and it looked more like differential oil in there in mine.

Re: Swapping tranny tonight
Looks like I need to find a place to rent or borrow a torsion bar unloading tool in order to be able to get that crossmember out of the way. The local auto stores are no luck so far. Anyone here ever rent one and if so, where did ya find it??? Last night I got as far as pulling the drive shafts out ...

Re: Swapping tranny tonight
Thanks for the tips! Got it jacked up now and ready to start wrenching. It's pretty clean underneath, considering the age, but I'm sure it will still be a big mess when all is said and done. Dirty job but someone's gotta do it, right? Oh, what type of fluid should I put back in the transfer case? An...

Swapping tranny tonight
Well my '95 AWD just cooked the tranny. Found a good used one with a 1 year warranty for cheap so gonna go that route and plan to pull the old one out tonight. Anything I should know going into this? I have done a swap on a '95 rear wheel drive which was a breeze. Should I pull the transfer case and...

Re: What did you do to/with your van today?
Damn that hurts MC. That's two nice looking vans to take a hit this week. ChevyMaher got hit too. Quick repair, do wraps hide alot or does show imperfections? I sent you a PM on the trim rings. Well here's a photo of my van before I did the wrap and painted the rims black which shows the trim rings...
