Re: Changed rear oil, still have a clunking
G80 does not require the additive according to GM. Just because there are minimal or no filings doesn't mean the G80 is still good. I would look towards something else being the cause...When was the last time you changed the transfer case fluid? It requires the GM Auto-trac-2 fluid. If it has been ...

Changed rear oil, still have a clunking
I had my mechanic drain the rear end and put new oil in as recommended in the owners manual. He didn't see a major amount of metal flakes or shavings, but the clunking noise is still there when I make tight turns. Now what? Any suggestions? It is a G80 rear as shown on the rpo codes.

Rear fluid/oil
Okay so now the noise in my van is in the rear. What type of rear fluid do you use? One dealer told my mechanic to use synthetic, the other said no synthetic, only axle lubricant sae 80W 90. I have the G80. Does this make a difference in what type to use?

I have a G80 on the code sticker on the right side passenger door, so I guess it's a posi?
Rear type
How do I know if I have a posi or open rear? Any tags or numbers?

AWD binding?? Now maybe bad rear end???
My cousin rode in my Safari and he says what he hears is a bad rear or problem rear end. I did notice the right rear tire is tilted in on the top. Do these normally have rear end issues? I have never had one on any of my other Astros before. What should I look for as far as a diagnosis? Any help wou...

Re: Finally found a Safari
18 inch wheels and tires definitely, don't like the stockers. Will keep them as winter wheels though. Maybe a nice sounding exhaust. I want to keep it as a daily driver. Then I need to find a second row bench seat to replace the captain style seats. Too difficult to take in and out for hauling purpo...

Finally found a Safari
Bought a 2000 Safari SLT locally. AWD, power seats, quad seating, rear heat and AC. 69,000 miles. Factory tow package as well. I am getting it on Monday. I can't wait. This is my first Safari, I have only had Astros before. Not thrilled about the color but oh well.

Re: New in jersey
Here are a few of the vettes. The only one we still have is the 63. She will NEVER sell it. It was actually stolen when she was back in HS. It was gone for a few days and then found in a field in town. Minor damage was repaired.

Re: New in jersey
Boy,,she was up town if she was riding around in a 63 Vette in HS. How did you land her,,the guys must have been chasing her all over the place ?? :-k When she was in HS in 1980 the 63 Vette was just another vette, not what it is today. Especially because she paid so little for it back then. We've ...

New in jersey
Hi, I'm glad I found this forum. I have been in love with Astro's since my first new one in 1990 but have not had one since I sold my 96 in 2003. My wife(fiance at the time) said she would rather take a taxi than drive it. She actually prefers the older full size 70's vans. It was an extra car at th...
