Re: Recommendations for 2-3" Lift? - 92 Astro AWD EXT
I have the rear body up some with the monroe coil over shocks. I really want to get the oil pan higher is why I am looking into lifting. I don't want to go too high though. I still want the van to be decent on the highway. If I could go 2-3" front and rear I'd be happy. Now I realise though aft...

Re: Recommendations for 2-3" Lift? - 92 Astro AWD EXT
Thanks for the info. I will dig around and see what I can find. I am having the oil pan replaced and since they are dropping the front axle I decided to look into getting a lift. I guess I will be holding off on the lift though since my shocks are relatively new. No sense in tossing them in the tras...

Recommendations for 2-3" Lift? - 92 Astro AWD EXT
What brand/model of lift kit do you recomend for a 1992 Astro AWD EXT? I would like to go up 2-3". I have never done a lift kit before. Is there anything else that needs to be done besides installing the kit? Do the shocks need to be swapped to something different then OEM length?

Re: High Roof / Poptop / Camper Conversion Info Thread - 201
I will start with the first post I guess. My goal is a complete 4x4 camper conversion. I think ideally I would like to have a pop top to keep at least some aerodynamics and to keep weight down. I have thought to look for a pop top at a junk yard. I would think a VW bus poptop would work but may be r...

High Roof / Poptop / Camper Conversion Info Thread - 2018
I am interested in converting my Astro to either a high roof or poptop. I have done research and found that there probably are not any kits still in production. I am starting this thread for myself and others that want to or already have a high roof/pop top/camper AstroSafari so that information can...

Re: High Pressure-Where is oil pressure sensor and relief va
I did finally get around to testing the oil pressure. I luckily found everything was fine. The gauge is just off by 20lbs too much. I also didn't realize that the oil pressure spec was as high as its. Still gonna need to drop the pan one of these days. Its got a tiny dent/nick from brushing a rock o...

Re: High Pressure-Where is oil pressure sensor and relief va
That is why I am asking where the oil pressure sensor is. I have a gauge already. I need to know where the senor is to install the gauge. Do you know where the sensor is on the block?okie1 wrote:Test it with a pressure gauge, the dash gauges are not that reliable.

High Pressure-Where is oil pressure sensor and relief valve?
I have a 1992 AWD Astro that is having high oil pressure readings on the dash. It runs 60-80PSI right now when driving. Idle pressure shows 40-60PSI. Its been building pressure the last 15,000-20,000 miles. I have already tried several different brands and viscosities of oil as well as several diffe...

Hard Brakes - Hydro Boost questions - 1993 Chevy Astro
My 1993 AWD Astro's brake system seems like it is getting hard to brake. It takes a lot of foot pressure to apply the brakes. The van won't lock up the brakes or ever need to apply anti-lock either. The power steering is working fine so I assume the power steering pump is working. There are no warni...

Can you hear if a fuel pump is worn out?
I just bought a 1992 Astro with a "W" motor and 108,000 miles. It runs good but the fuel pump makes a loud whining noise when it operates. It is the original fuel pump I believe. When the pump runs it makes a sounds like, "Rreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeer&quo...

Re: Newb needs help IDing 1992 Astro motor
Well I have had the time to diagnose the reason the Astro I bought wasn't running. It turned out the fuel pump worked fine. There was no spark however. I used a website that described how to troubleshoot the Astro's ignition system. After a bit of fooling around I discovered the Ignition Control Mod...

Re: Newb needs help IDing 1992 Astro motor
I ended up snagging the Astro. It is in sweet overall condition but is not currently running. Its probably the fuel pump is the current diagnosis. It came with 25 years of maintenance notes & receipts all the way back to the first oil change at 3000 miles. Should be an interesting read. I got th...

That custom MFI is a sweet setup.doyoulikeithere wrote:Lots of folks have taken to modifying the VIN W CPI manifold for mutiport fuel injection.
What do the MFI mods add to the motor? I assume they increase HP. Do they add MPG?
