Re: What are my options here?(Sliding door roller mount rust
Can't help but wonder how much rust is in the rest of the door. It looks like it would be more cost effective to just replace the door. That's good advise from the rest of the guys. The van pretty rust-free so this came as a huge surprise to me, especially for it to be in such a weird and critical ...

What are my options here?(Sliding door roller mount rust-out
VAN DOOR.jpg The upper roller for my sliding door was worn out so I went to replace it with a salvage one but when I took the original off I found that there's no way to attach the new one. As you can see in the picture, the holes where it should mount have corroded away (how is a mystery to me, as...

Re: Rear Diff fluid. . .
80W-90 is all you need for the rear diff. For the engine though, it's a little too thick! :muhaha: As long as your oil pressure is good, run either 5W-30 or 10W-30. No need to run synthetic unless you can buy it on sale cheaper than dino oil. I find that the case at NAPA sometimes. It was like 15/b...

Rear Diff fluid. . .
I just returned from Pep boys and they gave me 2 quarts of 75w140. From reading the forums here I should have gotten 80w90 and they messed up? Is a high-viscosity synthetic better for a high-mileage (180k-ish) engine?

Thermostat/radiator cap
Just got back from pep-boys and they sent me home with a 95-195 stant thermostat, 16lb stant radiator cap. Upon looking at my van/these forums I'm wondering if I got the right stuff brand/spec-wise (the van dash thermo goes to 220?). I don't have the manual for my van (1999 cargo astro) and would li...

Re: Attaching walls to the inside of a cargo van. . .
Hi, You may want to purchase $80 Riv-nut kit from McMaster Carr.com. Then you can install aluminum or steel threaded inserts in the sheet metal of the van wall stringers. Then use machine screws to attach the plywood to the wall. The Riv nuts are like pop rivets but have theeaded center portion. 10...

Re: Attaching walls to the inside of a cargo van. . .
What I did- Rubber tape on the ribs where ply makes contact w/ metal to avoid squeaks then used shortest self drilling screws possible. Where the screw would be close to the outer skin I used a plain sheet metal screw and pre-drilled in order to have more thread grabbing metal. My walls / ceiling a...

Attaching walls to the inside of a cargo van. . .
I am in the middle of insulating my cargo Astro as a camper and I'm stuck at how to adhere the plywood wall panel I've cut to the framing along the interior driverside wall. The framing is sparse and very shallow (maybe 1" from the outer wall of the van) and I am not sure if it is safer to use ...

Newbie sourcing parts - what to look for?
Hello astro forums, I recently purchased a 99 cargo RWD astro which needs a fair amount of work. When I went to ebay to find some new replacements, I was struck by how many different choices I had, and my lack of knowledge on the subject scares me. I need to source a variety of small parts (thermost...
