Re: busted oil pan (ie waited too long to instal skid plate)
The pan wasn't too bad for me but the project did take awhile, it helped to rotate the crankshaft to get the pan in and out...I too thought about replacing the motor mounts....and may still go back in and replace all the rubber as others discussed.
A skid plate is on my list after a few too many hits to my Trans pan causing stripped bolts and leaking oil pan. So add me to the list, maybe we can get a deal, it is certainly not something I am capable of myself.Herbie wrote:If you find a good solution for having the skid plates fabbed locally, let me know. I think you're close enough to me that I could probably use the same shop or whatever.

Hi,
Nice skid plate.
Yes the deep oil pan hangs low on Astro. Nit is good to have large oil capacity but yes a skid plate it very good idea.

Wow, haven't received a notification from this site in years! Looks like you are getting a skid plate started? Mine is still serving me well though it's a bummer having to pull it every time I need to track down a new leak....

Re: busted oil pan (ie waited too long to instal skid plate)
Hi,
Worked on front skid plate today. 4 mm thick 6061 aluminum plate , 34" X 17.5 ".
This skid plate protects oil pan, oil filter, front diff.
I have mid point skid plate to protect transmission, and rear skid plate to protect transfer case.
My t case is np231C.
Have you had good luck with the 4.10 ratios?
Did you put a locker in rear diff?
Happy New Year.

Hi,
My front 4 mm thick 18 X 33 aluminum skid plate protects engine oil pan. Today I use 1" bore countersink 3 flute from McMaster Carr to counter sink 82 degrees for flat head 3/8" stainless steel Phillips head screws.
