Post by Damnvan »

Hi all!

Been a while since I posted but I need help.

1999 Astro. What wrench size for the clutch fan? I think it measures out 36 mm.

Thank you.

Ok quick update since its my anniversary. I got a 36 mm wrench but it ended up being the fan was cracked around the bolts. I got some pics Ill run then up tomorrow.

Edit for pics and update:

Shot of using the wrench to jam the pulley so it wont turn.

Over all whole project turned out to be a bear. Bolt for the T-stat was stripped. Someone ,a garage, used a few washers to cripple it along and passed it on to me. I was able to tap it out (8x1.25) but the threads were still pretty loose so I used a differant length bolt and some locktight.
The fan was a pain to get unloosend. I wasn't sure which way to turn it so I looked at the threads of the new one and gambled on lefty loosey which panned out. It was not one very tight but its hard to hold the pulley still and get that monster wrench to turn. It almost got cut short. The stuff you rent at the parts store was cheap stamped junk. the 36 mm "wrench" was all spread out and wont hold at all so I bought that wrench for 12.99$.The fan clutch prolly was fine it was the fan that was shot. We ended up at the dealer for a new one at 89$. No one else had it in stock. Last thing was I somehow knocked the AC down ,noticed it on the test drive, it only went out the deforster. I had found a bad vacuum line so me and the wife played around with it and I ended up making a direct splice from the main line so we could have AC out the vents and atleast have a nice dinner out for my 3 year anv. Good thing was I reset the codes(battery) and all went away so no service engine light for the time being :supz:
