Oil Pan

Post by bstett »

Hi all

Question, have a 1987 Astro with the 4.3 engine.

Is it possible to remove the oil pan with out jacking up the engine..

Will the pan clear the oil pump?

Thanks in advance

Not sure but we'll bump this and see what happens.
I know on my 350, when installing a 7qt pan,I had to lift the block a couple of inches and also move the motor forward to clear the flexplate due to lack of crossmember clearence.

On my 1991 I removed my front differential, starter, oil filter and torque converter cover. If I hadnt removed the front diff, I would have had to take the exhaust pipes off.

Removing oil pan is not minor procedure...

The 87 is RWD and is not AWD so it will be a different procedure.
