1997 Safari

Post by PeterT »

The son is driving the safari now and came home the other night and turned off the van and the blower motor kept running. I have pulled the 30amp fuse for now to stop the fan from running. I am on call tonight and just got home to take another look. The blower wires go into the evaporator housing. Black and purple. I am thinking the blower motor relay is stuck. Anyone have a idea where they are hiding that relay.

check out autozone.com. I think their repair info only runs up through '96 but this should be close enough.

Yes I checked there and it shows it on the firewall above the blower but not there on a 1997. The wires go into the AC coil.

I think you need one of these things:

http://198.208.187.182/internet/PartIma ... r=15-80550

The high speed fan relay is built into it. It is located in behind the coolant puke bottle, mounted on the evaporator case. Tapping it with a screwdriver or something might make the relay drop out, for testing at least.

Thanks sfeaver. That was the part I picked up today at the GM dealer. Told the guy at the parts counter what the blower fan was doing and he said he would be right back. He opened the box and there was the same part you posted. He even showed me the template in the box to mount the new style. So with a little bit of Dremal work I will be back to normal. I just need to get my hands on the van. Kids just don't have time to let me fix it for them.

Well that was a easy fix. Just took the dremal tool and carved out a little bit biger area and plugged in the new part and the blower was back to new. Thanks for the help with the part.
