Quick question... ECM compatability...
I have the 16144288 computer on my 91 TBI engine. Everything i've read shows you can just swap in the V* PROM into the 7747 computer, but nothing about swapping into a 4288 computer. Can I just swap in a 7477 computer in place of mine?

Re: Quick question... ECM compatability...
I swapped in the 7747 computer on my 1990. I don't remember what the # was on the stock puter (was not a 7747) but the 7747 from the v8 I had swapped right in and I installed a new chip from TBIchips.com.

Find a good shop and get er built!
If you have a shop you know do the work you can have the motor built to your spec and you will know what is in it.
When you buy a runner you never really know.
Or you could always buy a crate motor. They often offer the best value.
Soo many choices. Man I wan't to do another swap now. Thanks a lot!

Re: Quick question... ECM compatability...
I'm currently doing the V-8 swap with a friend of mine. He picked up the 7747 computer from a local yard yesterday and it didn't even come close to plugging in. (It was from a 90 V-8 pick-up and we have a 93 van) He went back today and asked for a computer to a 93 V-8 pick-up with 4L60E trans and it plugs in. I'm hoping to get a chip for this computer if it works. We should have done more research first..............but where's the fun in that?!

Re: Quick question... ECM compatability...
Bikehauler, I've been to two engine shops nearby and one told me to go to the other one, haha. I talked the guy/owner and he seems like a good guy. Been there twice. Last time he showed me around the shop and answered all my "newbee" questions about cam compatabilites, etc. Says he knows he's a little pricey (as what others say), but other shops say he's the best around. ~$1075 for machining block and heads. I should really start a swap thread and give some details. Yea, buying a crate motor would be quicker, easier, but building one and saying I DID IT sounds so much better!
SCPerf, thanks for the heads up. I'll have to look for the same year and note my connections.
