Best brand of fuel pump 2000 Astro?

Post by dcarlson12 »

Hope this is posted in correct area, if not, sorry.
Replaced my fuel pump back in 2005 at 128,000 km now at 235,000 km.
Used what was supposed to be same as OEM i.e.(ac?)delco part#MU1065 (MU1375).

Has anyone used a different brand?
If so, better or same life span? Part number?

The existing pump seems to be starting to make more noise than originally (i.e. like the original pump did before it failed) so I am thinking about buying a 'spare' pump to carry along especially on long trips.

Just would like to have feed back if there are any better choices. There seem to be quite a range of prices for alternate brands but price unfortunately is not necessarily a guarantee of better quality...

Thks,
Dwight

I still think OEM is the best bet but I had bad luck with my last one of those so maybe it's just a crap shoot.

Please, please, please for all of us, buy an aftermarket pump like a Holley red or blue and make it work. For $150 once installed, it will never need replaced. None of us has just never tried it.

Just got pushed home with my STOCK awd '98 Astro AGAIN. After the van quit THIS time, I crawled under and hit the bottom of the tank and it started right up but only made it a couple blocks. This pump isn't a Delco but came from Advance Auto Parts about a month ago. I guess I should just drive the LS1 Astro, that seems to give almost NO trouble. I had to replace the MAF on my Cali trip last year but that's been the only glitch in 20K miles.

The best pump to use is a genuine AC Delco, but to give them the longevity change your fuel filters every 20k.

I blow through every fuel filter that I change at my work, and they are always very restricted which puts an extra strain on the pump.

Last two fuel filters only made it about 3K miles and about 1K miles as they got/will get replaced with the fuel pumps, a Delco and whatever the Advance thing is. I'm going to try to look into the wireing deeper after this one.

along the lines of what 'The Wanker' said (and an excellent 'said' it was) =D> ,...don't run your gas tank all the way down.
