Ford Transmission

Post by ihatemybike »

Had to pull the valve body on a '97 Ranger to extract a broken bolt. Thought it was put together correctly, but now reverse and neutral are forward gears. It's the 4R44E transmission. Anybody know what I did wrong?

Check to see that you have the manual valve positioned correctly. :-k

Crap, I'm lost already.

Hopefully I can get to the Library before they close at 5 tomorrow. I'm hoping they have a Mitchel's that covers this trans.

Really ready for this Ranger to leave my driveway again.

Yea, you didn't take pics of the dis-assembly process, and now you can't go back and check what goes where :poke:

What made you think there was a broken bolt in the valve body in the 1st place?

My friend broke the bolt that holds the trans filter in. He's new to wrenching and I wasn't under the truck supervising at the time.

The bolt for the filter goes all the way through the valve body, so I lowered the valve body to remove the bolt. I didn't move anything on the valve body, that I'm aware of. Nothing to really take a pic of.

You can also go to http://www.ford-trucks.com

They have a dedicated Ranger forum, and lots of other forums, I visit reularly for my 2 ford trucks. Good people there.

I have a 2001 Expy, which I HATE
