Goodbye from NYC

Post by NYCvibe »

Well, after all that creative hard work, this is how it had to end. Declared a Total Loss after flipping over...

For those wondering how this van looked before, here are some pix from earlier in the year...

With the massive suspension damage and the bent frame from the looks of the kink in the roof of the first pic I don't think it would be worth fixing. How did the accident happen and is everyone ok???

Will they let you pull off some parts? the tires look good and the bush bar and rear step could probably be saved for another van.

Still wishing I bought back my 2000 and pulled more parts off it before sending it off to scrap, don't make the same mistake I did.

I'm ok, thanks.

Would love to pull some parts off but the insurance company won't let me. The engine still runs and the wheels, rear LED tails, alarm/remote start, 115 dB air horn, hitch step, pioneer stereo/subwoofer, rear wing/spoiler, billet grill and the chrome exhaust tip are all pretty much in great shape. I'll see if they can at least sell me those non-mechanical after-market parts. Most damage is on the body and suspension so no, I don't think I want to buy it back and re-build it. Plus, they probably won't insure it if I do.

I don't actually remember much. All I remember is I was driving down the street at about 5:30 AM coming home from a DJ gig doing about 35 mph with tons of DJ equipment in the back. Some drunk boy-racer type dude comes straight at me from the other end of the street so I swerve slightly right to avoid a head-on collision and in so doing, I partially hit a parked car with my front passenger's side.

From witness accounts, the back of the van skids out to the left onto the road and then flips over, hitting yet another parked car! Might have not been the case would it have been raining and the road was wet. But with the dry tarmac, the friction is too great so I end up on my left side. Next thing I know, I'm in the ER getting stitches. Luckily, it was just me in the van and I usually pack up equipment in it with the assumption that this might happen so nothing big really shifted around much.

Still sucks, though...

That really sucks! It always makes me nervous driving a custom car that you spent a lot of time and money on to be gone in an instant. I had it happen a few years ago with my mustang. A nice 6 year build and finally completed, and my first drive to the new house from work, and bam... gone. Well glad your okay, and who knows what the future will bring. Good luck!

You need to do more talking. When my 2000 was totaled, I was able to pull the aftermarket wheels and radio, giving back the stock units.

Oh that's TERRIBLE news Mr Vibe!! I LOVED that van! It was so beautiful... I'm so sorry for you.
I'm so glad to hear you're ok, though. That's the most important thing.
