hello from a converted jeep dude

Post by okeman »

hey there name is Chris my sig name is said OAKman but spelled okeman like my last name, I have owned 4wd jeep YJ's and TJ's and grand cherokee's and Wagoneers, so I thought I would get an astro van in AWD only problem is there is no AWD's in my area so I had to settle with a 2wd as I have my 3rd child on the way, so I have decided to convert my van to 4 wheel drive by way of all my extra jeep parts. such as a shortened D44 front and matching rear D44, now I have to decide on what t-case and trans I wanna use, my van is an 01 and in great shape I can get a few pics of her in the light
Recently I was asked to run a marathon. At first I said, 'Naaahhh!' Then they said to me 'Come on, it's for handicapped and blind kids. Then I thought........

Holy Shyt... I could win this.......!

Welcome. I can't help you with the transfer case or anything like that, but there are people here who can. Lifte4x4Astro is the first one who comes to mind as he has done SAS and 4X4 conversions. Some others have as well. So where abouts are you from?

Windsor ON! Wonderful! Another Ontario member. I asked because we have a bunch of people with the same last name up our way (Exeter ON).

Welcome to the site! I have two '96 Cherokees. Both 2WD :yikes: And my work horse, my '89 Astro...and another wreck I won't mention. 187,000 miles on the black one, 130,000 miles on the green one. I'm torn, when the v6 in the astro gives up, I'm either putting a gm 350 in it, or a jeep inline 6 with an AW4 transmission.
You have come to the right place. :guitar:
'89 Astro, 4.3L, TBI. Minor intake and exhaust mods. Rebuilt 700R4 trans (by me). Corvette servo, 0.5" boost valve, police grade 1-2 accumulator spring (shifts fast and solid). B&M stacked plate trans cooler. Bilstein shocks. Belltech sway bars front and back. New head unit, speakers and subwoofer. Needs paint and a new headliner.

well I'll tell ya that the AW4 will not take power of any type. I blew 6 with my wagoneer I had a build 4.6 stroker motor, and trannys and spider gears were not my friend, the inline 6 is the bomb motor one of my favs of all time will the 4.0 fit in the van its 2x longer then the 4.3 but if you can shoe horn that puppy in there slap in a stroker kit and you'll never regret it I sold mine to a guy who had a 350 in his jeep and he needed more torque so he put my stroker in at the crank It had 429 ft. lbs crazy power I miss it really but the van will be cool

No argument there. My jeep engines are both stock to the bone. I've gotten 180K plus miles out of the engine and transmission without a rebuild. I just like the gear ratios and smooth shifting for a daily driver. Sticking a Jeep I-6 in my van is just a pipe dream. I don't think it would fit.
