Astro door locks
With Ole Yellar-I have two door locks that work and two that are frozen.(not due to the winter, they just won't move)The question I have is if I pick up two junkyard locks, could I have them re-key to my current keys??.
Thanks for the help,
Gary
BTW-one of the frozen locks is the drivers door. It's a real PITA to climb over to open it all the time.I've done a search and found 33 matches all for electric door locks.None I could find for the locks it's self.
Thanks for the help,
Gary

Re: Astro door locks
Have you tried spraying a little wd-40 or pb blaster into the keyholes? When mine start getting sticky this does the trick.

Any competent locksmith could rekey the cylinders. Chances are, you won't need to replace the existing ones. A wafer or a spring has fallen out.

Re: Astro door locks
Gary...why junk yard locks? For the amount of work involved and the expense of rekeying, it would be more cost effective to buy them new.

Re: Astro door locks
Thanks Mike-I was thinking the same thing.Just wasn't sure if this one of those dealership only deals.
Skip-Can I still get from a dealership same keyed locks for my 1985 van??.If not, then I would have to change all four requiring some more work.Hummm.

Re: Astro door locks
Hey Gar, I don't have the answer. I had a key made for the '96 Safari at a dealership with just the VIN number. I had to show ownership. It would be worth a phone call. I don't know why the door locks would be different. I'm pretty sure the doors are the same.

Re: Astro door locks
you can get replacement GM locks at pretty much any parts stores . i checked them out for the 88 i bought for debby ( no lock key just ignition ) i found a set of 4 with 2 keys at autozone for 95$ plus tax. this was years ago so the price is probably a little more now but ........
Re: Astro door locks
you'll never find keyed locks the same as you have now ...anywhere .kip-Can I still get from a dealership same keyed locks for my 1985 van??.If not, then I would have to change all four requiring some more work.Hummm.

Re: Astro door locks
Grumpy's locks were all stuck like that. So far I've only removed the drivers door lock. Sprayed it up really good and futzed with the pins until they started moving again. Works better than the locks in Green now and much more enjoyable than climbing in through the back.
