Hey Skippy,
Nice to hear you've made some progress.
I don't think you can mount the flex plate backwards as you would have difficulty bolting the t/c to it.
If I remember right the weights are on the t/c side of the flex plate. If you have it together correctly, try shimming the starter with a shim or two.
If everthing else is OK shimming the starter will fix your grinding noise.

nope the flex plate was on backwards ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) only took a couple hours & we got the tranny unhooked , unbolted & pulled back far enough to change out the flex plate then put back together enough to test the starter . its working fine now . now to get everything buttoned up so we can see if it fires ok .

i still say it needs a fuel pump but we'll find out soon enough ..... :-k :-k :-k
