Free Web hosting?

Post by Someone »

Is there such thing as a good free web hosting site?

looking to put up a business website, figured I could get something free and just buy a domain and forward it?

are they all going to be full of adds and other BS... anyone know of a good place to pay for it? preferably in canada?

website will be quite basic.

Any help would be appreciated

any free host is going pepper your site with ads and pop ups and be generally annoying.

on another note, after doing a lot of research back when we were gotting ready to move ASV to its current home, i came to the conclusion that "web hosting review" sites similar to the one that zam posted are pretty much just advertising for the hosting companies.

I would look here http://inmotionhosting.com/hostingplans.html this is the site that ASV is using and where i'll be moving my personal web sites when my current hosting expires. I have been nothing short of impressed with their professionalism and support any time i had questions or problems.

And like just about every other host, they will register your domain name for you as part of your package.

I use http://www.hostgator.com for my dodge dakota site. since moving to it, never had a problem. it's under $20 cdn a month... here's a list of their packages.. obviously, the business one is the most expensive.. that's the one I use. http://www.hostgator.com/shared.shtml

Nobody has asked the obvious... Does your internet service provider offer any free web hosting as part of your monthly service?

I've got Charter and have free web hosting. It's not enough to run a site like ASV, but a small business site would run OK. And there are no pop-ups or other annoyances.

Also, our snowmobile association uses Blue Host (bluehost.com) and looking at the site, it will cost about $10 a month... less going for a long-term contract. It's been a pretty reliable service and we have a ton of hits on our site in September & October leading up to our snow show with no bandwidth issues.
