For U Music Folks

Post by Rebel »

Thought some of you would be interested in a little piece of rock and roll history in Muscle Shoals Alabama. This was THE studio to record in during the late 50's and 60's. Only one place you could get that different sound and it was Jackson Hwy. I worked here during my college days building tube lights and re-coning speakers. This was after recording had run it's course here and a new stuidio was built by the name of Fame. When I first started working for Southerland Sight & Sound at Jackson Hwy. Studio I walked in the men's room which was in need of a major overhaul, I noticed the hundreds of autographs on the walls, Rolling Stones, The Eagles, Clarence Carter, Otis Redding, Aretha Frankilin, Rod Stewart and many many others. The studio has been remodeled and from what I understand, they are recording there again and is open to the public.
Hope you music guys enjoy.

Thanks for sharing that Larry. Is the Alabama Music Hall of Fame the same building? I recall going past the Alabama Music Hall of Fame when I was down in Tuscumbia several years ago.l

No, the Hall of Fame is out on 72 west a couple of miles out of Muscle Shoals. No one knows exactly where the city limit are for the quad-cities but think it's actually in Tuscumbia.
Jackson Hwy. Recording studio is of course on Jackson Hwy and may actually be in Sheffield. The studio that replaced Jackson is Fame and I do know, it's in Muscle Shoals.

You can still hear the group Lynyrd Skynyrd mentioned in 'Sweet Home Alabama" Swampers every Thursday night at the Holiday Inn lounge in Muscle Shoals. This is one amazing group of guys who are still backing up the greats of today.

I'm a huge Lynyrd Skynyrd fan, saw them live a few years back up here. They played at Naperville's Rib Fest, don't get much better then seeing Skynyrd live with the smell of smoked ribs in the background.

I have a 3-disk box set that came with a story of the band's history and some early photos. Amazing story behind the band.
