Come sail away, come sail away, sail away with me......

Post by ihatemybike »

I don't know why, but I often find myself thinking about making an amphibious Astro. It's not practical, it's not efficient, just strikes me as cool for some reason. I have Monster Garage on DVD and have watch the school bus pontoon boat one many times.

I'm also inspired by the floating Cubans, who just for the audacity of it should be allowed in the US. In my opinion if they have that much talent give em a green card and put them to work.

I'll just have to let it be a daydream for now, but it sure would be fun.

YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

SOME PEOPLE ARE LIKE SLINKIES - NOT REALLY GOOD FOR ANYTHING BUT THEY BRING A SMILE TO YOUR FACE WHEN PUSHED DOWN THE STAIRS.

Given the curb weight - more like a submarine
'89 Astro, 4.3L, TBI. Minor intake and exhaust mods. Rebuilt 700R4 trans (by me). Corvette servo, 0.5" boost valve, police grade 1-2 accumulator spring (shifts fast and solid). B&M stacked plate trans cooler. Bilstein shocks. Belltech sway bars front and back. New head unit, speakers and subwoofer. Needs paint and a new headliner.

name's Steve
I can't remember all I've forgotten about that....

What do you think weighs more an Astro or this 1949 Mercury station wagon?

Yeah Squid, the DUKWs are awesome machines. Every time we go to the Wisconsin Dells we have to go for the ride.

While looking to see if hebert12 is on the Frapper map, I saw that there are a few vans in Hawaii. Made me wonder what it's like to drive someplace that small and then I got to wondering about getting your vehicle from island to island.

Which leads to getting the van from the mainland to Hawaii and wondering if a amphibious Astro could make the distance.

Which leads to looking at ocean current charts to see if they could be used to help extend the vans range.

I think I may be sick. What's lotto up to this week?
