I'm in the midst of installing an Aux Tranny Oil cooler inside my new van (2009 Montana van). re: http://www.makcotransmissionparts.com/OC-1678.html Was hoping to clone the same main rad pipe cut / re-routing "fluid flow" as my previous 2001 AWD Safari van. re: Out of transmission, into main rad, out of main rad, into aux tranny oil cooler and "return" to its transmission. I'd like to clone the same piping as my previous Safari van but traded it in a few weeks ago. Hoping all GM rads have the same "default" in/out piping flow.

For those of you who have an aux tranny oil cooler installed on your Astro / Safari van, that main rad pipe was cut & rerouted? re: The top passenger pipe or the bottom passenger pipe?

Thanks for the URLs and detailed pictures. And, pointing me in the direction that states "Definitely tap into the `top` trans cooler line at the radiator.". And, seeing a supporting picture as well. I thought it was the top inlet but wasn't positive. Thanks...

If wondering, today I installed 2 vertical support rails, mounted (bolted down) my van's new tranny cooler on these support rails and created a larger rubber tube path to the back of the main rad. Just need to buy longer 3/8 rubber hose, a can of ATF fluid and cut / re-route its rubber tubing. A job for next weekend. (giant smile).

Another question....

My provided Hayden tranny cooler manual states I need to use fitting Kit 390 (which is a 3/8" 90 degree elbow) for newer GM vehicles. When I intalled the aux tranny cooler in my previous 2001 Safari van, I simply cut the factory steel tubing, connected the 3/8 rubber hose and screwed down its clamps. Then, added 1/2 can of new tranny oil. For its install, I didn't need a special fitting on the main rad. Is this Kit 590 fitting a "nice to have" or is it mandatory (for better flow)?

Update:

My digital camera's batteries finally charged up. Below is a few URLs containing pictures of the Aux Cooler I installed in my '09 Montana van (using 2 x vertical steel supports). I plan to connect its 3/8 rubber hoses next week. Hopefully, these pictures help others - if you plan to install a future 9x11.5 aux cooler in your van as well. If wondering, same vertical steel support mounting can be used on Astro/Safari van's as well...
