Dutch Door won't Release!

Post by CaptSquid »

It's not mechanical, it's electrical. I can't get in by using the key, because the key switch had a tumbler fall out of place, so the only way in is via the dash switch. I swapped out the questionable switch with one known to work and still no access.

Does the Dutch Door solenoid use a breaker or a fuse?

Check the wiring at the keyswitch. The red wire there is the same as what comes from the dash switch. It goes to the rear release module (I think is where the jack is located, at least on the 96+ it is, If I remember correctly it was there on the 93 as well).

It grounds to activate.

Hope that helps somewhat,
Scott

The control unit for the dutch door latch is a small black box with a flat wire conector in the jack stowage compartment. I can't remember which wires will pop the door.

You can also access the wires going to the key switch in the back door through the speaker hole if you are agile. The key switch can be unplugged (not to bad, but a bit tricky) and then just shorted to open the door.

(edit: Sorry Scot, didn't even see your post :dunce: )

There is a conection that requires the van to be in Park, maybe neutral. Something there, possibly?
I've never explored that circuit...

Oh ok, I thought you meant that it did still work.

This module is powered by the horn fuse. So is the rear defogger relay.

The dash button goes through the neutral safety switch for its ground path, has to be in park or neutral. Rear key switch bypasses this so if that doesnt release it I would look elsewhere.

I know the module also looks at the liftgate strut switch to see if the door is already open. If it is, it wont fire the solenoids. That is the dark green wire going into the module.

Hopefully that steers you a bit closer. If you have Windows XP I think I can print this diagram from Mitchell on Demand with the .XPS program. Let me know your email address and I can send it to you.

Problem solved! The gear shift in Park hadn't engaged the NSS. I gave it a nudge and the switch worked!
