Happy Canada Day, my northern brothers and sisters.
Here's what Canada Day 2009 looked like from the roof top of my house, which of course, is slightly better than from my back deck.
This is from Jen's little Canon point and shoot camera, all the way on macro (making things look furrrthest away), with my next door neighbors American flag in the foreground. The shot includes Bellingham Bay with Vancouver Island mountains beyond to the left, and Vancouver's Coastal Range to the right.
Zoom in a little. looking west slightly northwest. Bellingham Bay, again with Vancouver Island mts silhouetted in the background.
Panning toward the north, still northwest. Corner of Bellingham Bay, can see the Strait of Georgia on a clear day, marked here by the lights of Cherry Point Refinery on the horizon.
Panning again left to right you begin to see the mountains of the Lower Mainland beginning with the Coastal Range. I always think of Horshoe Bay sitting right there at the base, although its probably more like Sechelt or something actually because I think that 3rd little valley about 2 inches in on the photo from the base of the mountain range (left to right) is actually Howe Sound.
Continueing to pan left to right, almost directly north now, I'm assuming that the mountains of Girbaldi Provincial Park because they stay snow capped for so long, they must be higher than Seymour, Coquitlam, and Robie Reid in front of them. Possibly some of the Lillooet range in the right of the picture. The lights of Grouse Mt, Seymour, and Cypress are all visible after nightfall.
The lights of Civic Field Football Stadium in the foreground. I can hear the High School football games when they cheer for good plays. The hockey rink and baseball fields, skate park and bike jump park (aka The Trauma Park) are all right there. To the right of Civic Field you can see the row of lights at Wilson Toyota auto dealership. At the end of that row is a large white barn like building. The shop I sell for is right behind that. Yes, a nice short commute to work.
May invite my buddy Brian over to take pictures on the 4rth with all the fireworks going off.
Happy Canada Day.
