i am so FRUSTRATED!
I thought I would be nice. My wife's friend has a 2006 Honda Accord that needed new rear disc brake pads--this should take all of 15 minutes per side, right?! Odd caliper design. Couldn't fit a c-clamp to it and destroyed on c-clamp when I figured out how. Then I found out that when she pulled into my garage, she pulled the emergency brake when she parked!

So, her son undid that as I watched the caliber. But even with the brake off--that cable didn't hang up, as I watched it release--I still couldn't easily depress the caliper piston. I've never in my life failed to finish a brake job--today was first time. I'll never own a Honda! It was NUTS.

I hate it when that happens.
The thing I dislike the most is the parts for imports are very expensive. I replaced a motor mount on a p.o.s. toyota my stepdaughter had a while back, $67 for a piece of rubber and stamped metal.

If I remember right, you have to screw the piston back in. Hence the above tool. I had A Fiero that was the same way.

Re: i am so FRUSTRATED!
You telling me I coulda done this with a really wide screwdriver? Screwed by a Haynes manual yet again!
You know I suspected that based on the x on the piston, even inadvertedly turned it a little, but I was afraid to try...

Re: i am so FRUSTRATED!
I have found this type of caliper on any vehicle that uses a rear caliper with an integrated mechanical function for the parking brake, which I believe is most Asian imports. I ran into the same problem when I put rear pads on my wife's Infiniti. I was able to turn it back in just using some needle nose pliers, putting the points of the pliers into the dimples in the caliper piston. The fun part is that as far as I can tell the piston is not threaded, so just turning it won't do. I had to push it in as I rotated the piston.

Where does one get this tool, and is it expensive?

$12 at Autozone. I'm sure Advanced Auto parts or Napa has them as well.
